In 2015, Day of the Dogs founder Pam Siedler began working as a weekly volunteer with the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas.
When she learned of the shelter’s low live release rate, Pam began looking for ways to give the animals – and the shelter – greater exposure and to increase awareness of the capacity crisis facing HCAS. Pam started the Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need Facebook page with the goal to raise funds for urgent animal cases and bring much-needed attention to HCAS.
Day of the Dogs was established in September 2016 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since the beginning, our mission has been to increase the live release rate of shelter animals through rescue and adoption support. We’re committed to saving homeless animals through multiple initiatives:
We've partnered on programming, foster recruitment, transports. We are also members of the Houston Coalition to Save Lives.
We've received grants and funding for our life-saving efforts.
We've partnered on transportation around the Abilene, TX area.
